Urban Confluence Silicon Valley

Molinos is a 150’ double windmill.

The tripod-mounted blades are reminiscent of windpumps that once populated the Santa Clara valley, however these “sunflower-like” blades are constructed of high tech glass fiber.

Below the tower is a 66’ diameter park that is within an infinite looping glass block path defining two areas: the larger is filled with plants selected to promote the lifecycle of local butterflies and the central area is a yellow sandbox-desert.

At night the path and the blades are illuminated LED animations that follow the passage of time. During the day, the structure casts shadows like a sundial.

A proposal intended in part as a critique of technology innovations that turn out more disruptive than anticipated. The research and concept development included industrial designer, Herbie Pfeiffer, and landscape designer, Kellee Adams.
