We were approached by Hot Studio to propose designs for their redesign of the SFMOMA website. Following an audit on international museums, we chose to address specific needs and concerns for the website:
- consider the 90% top users
- promote cultural ideals
- reveal modern art
- balance expression & clarity
- relate website & building
- promote a bold homepage: visual metaphors, headlines, webcams, animations, etc
- reference highest standards MOMA (function), ICA (expressive info), PompidouCenter (intro screen & expressive GUI). Tate (good design/info mix)
- promote events throughout the site and via RSS and web2.0 activities

This page shows a few of our concepts. With design #3, (based on a calendar), we explored a practical and straightforward design which was then selected as a starting point for the final design.
