SCALA CUPOLA

SCALA CUPOLA

A media installation for the Cinque Mostre exhibit, Rome, Italy / Erik Adigard w/  Jesse Jones, composer / American Academy in Rome 2013 (a part of SIMAGE project)
[art installation: projection, sound & smoke]
part of the SIMAGE project

A site-specific installation exploring the dynamics between image and architecture was exhibited during Adigard’s Rome Prize Fellowship. The Sistine Chapel ceiling is projected as a spinning video loop onto the ceiling of a multi-floor stairwell filled with smoke. The discovery of the piece includes the climbing of the stair case which brings visitors from one sonic environment to another and closer to the projection. [w/Jesse Jones, composer]

Scala Cupola is part of the larger project Cave To Cloud, an investigation of the nature of “image” in the age of mobility and digital networks. As such, it explores relationships between the sacred and notions of architecture, iconography, crowds, noise, harmony and tourism, as well as concerns of meaning, temporality, spatiality and motion.
