“We need not destroy the past—it is gone” is a quote from John Cage, who was the inspiration of the Nuova Consonanza festival. As it penetrates the walls of Villa Aurelia, Facsimile aims to echo his vision. It explores the porosity of a palatial spatiality that is “caged” in timelessness. With its hand print and long dark trail, the thermal paper penetrates through windows and doors, seemingly stretching the space-time continuum from parietal to contemporary media as if questioning our grasping of the present.

“Because I know that time is always time. And place is always and only place. And what is actual is actual only for one time,” are words by T.S. Eliot that also express the creative intent of this piece since they remind us that the facsimile stands for the futile attempt to overcome the obsolescence of the moment. [inspired by john cage]
